The Day Before Valentine’s Day

(a country ballad)

Oh why did you hurt me?
Why did you desert me?
Why did you treat me that way?
You said you still loved me.
Then how could you shove me
Out of your life that way?
One day elated,
The next devastated
And sadder than I could say.
Our days in the sun
Were so quickly undone
The day before Valentine’s Day.

I remember the day when you went away.
It was the day before Valentine’s Day.
You broke my heart. You broke it apart
On the day before Valentine’s Day.

We shared so much joy.
Why did you destroy
It all in the blink of an eye?
Together at dawn,
By night you were gone.
You wouldn’t even tell me why.
You stripped me of hope,
Left me trying to cope
Without the love we had grown.
When you left my side,
A part of me died.
I never felt so alone.

I begged you to stay but you went away.
It was the day before Valentine’s Day.
You broke my heart when you broke us apart
On the day before Valentine’s Day.

One day it was great,
The next day too late.
I couldn’t convince you to stay.
If you could explain,
It would help ease the pain,
Though nothing can take it away.
Still I’m glad we met,
And I’ll never forget
How I loved you, and I love you still.
I loved you the day
Before Valentine’s Day
And I guess that I always will.

I remember the day when you went away.
It was the day before Valentine’s Day.
You broke my heart. You tore it apart
On the day before Valentine’s Day.
